Political Systems and Democratic Governance Diagnostics – Facilitation Support for Niger and Mali

TPP Associate Sam Gibson supported a Political Systems and Democratic Governance Diagnostics in Niger and Mali, both facing severe democratic backsliding following military coups. The diagnostics aim to help British Embassies understand political systems, identify governance challenges, and shape realistic, politically grounded UK engagement.

Sam facilitated a structured, iterative process comprising virtual groundwork sessions, a joint regional workshop, and hybrid in-country workshops. Her responsibilities included co-designing workshop agendas, ensuring inclusive and analytical discussion, facilitating key sessions online, and producing short capture notes and recommendations.

The project is being delivered through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office's Democratic Governance Centre of Expertise which is managed by the Westminster Foundation for Democracy.
