Evaluation of the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology

TPP Associate Anna Paterson is leading an independent evaluation of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation’s (SDC) support to the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology. The assignment assesses the Institute's applied research and innovation in water and sanitation (WASH) and waste management, and its humanitarian backstopping mandate focused on strengthening evidence-based WASH interventions in crisis settings.

The evaluation combines rigorous analysis with a practical, policy-focused lens to understand how research translates into real-world impact. Using case studies in Uganda and global stakeholder engagement, it assesses effectiveness, partnerships, and the uptake of research into policy and practice.

The findings will inform future SDC programming and contribute to strengthening the role of research, knowledge brokerage, and technical support in delivering sustainable and equitable WASH outcomes.
