PDIA Toolkit: A DIY approach to solving complex problems (2018)

Published

Drawing from the Building State Capability: Evidence, Analysis, Action book, this toolkit attempts to provide guidance for solving complex problems, with an emphasis on teamwork. It offers an approach to drive change in development through analysis of the local context, identifying appropriate action steps, putting this action into practice, and finally reviewing and adapting these plans to changes in the recipient environment. Additionally, this toolkit provides extra resources to ensure the reader has an understanding of the tools presented, as well as worksheets. The PDIA approach set out in this guide rests on four principles: (1) local solutions for local problems, (2) pushing problem driven positive deviance, (3) try, learn, iterate, adapt, and (4) scale through diffusion.
