Political Economy Analysis of the Coffee Sector in Burundi

Gareth Williams (TPP Director) led a political economy analysis (PEA) of the coffee sector in Burundi for Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC).

As part of the preparation of a new public-private partnership between SDC and coffee trading companies, the PEA analyses the opportunities and risks for SDC's support to the sector. The analysis focuses in particular on the policy constraints affecting the coffee value chain, their underlying political economy causes and potential pathways of change and intervention strategies in support of reform. The report will directly contribute to the preparation of key parts of the project documents including the stakeholder analysis and risk assessment.
